Parish Outreach

Basketball Club
This program is open to students of Saint Francis School in grades 3 through 8.  It offers a full range of basketball and related cheerleading activates.  The program is divided thus:
  • Third and Fourth Grades:  Basketball clinic that teaches the basics of the sport.
  • Fifth and Sixth Grades:  Full team participation with a girls' and a boys' team.
  • Seventh and Eighth Grades:  The identical program offered to fifth and sixth grade teams with the addition of the opportunity to play at tournaments sponsored by other grammar schools and Catholic high schools.  Cheerleading opportunities exist for girls in grades 5 through 8.  They attend the games and support their team.  All tams have coaches who have experience as well as state coach's certifications.  New members are always welcome.
Bereavement Ministry

As a ministry of the parish, the New Life Bereavement Team seeks to extend to the family of a loved one the care and consolation of the Lord.  Team members visit the funeral home and offer condolences of the parish.  They also are available to assist the family in planning the funeral liturgy.  As the months go by after the funeral, the team sends to the families of those recently deceased indications of prayerful support and information about grief counseling.  The Bereavement Team also facilitates a support group for family members.  As a parish, we celebrate an annual All Soul's Day Mass and extend special inventions to the families of those deceased in that year.  In the fall of each year, this ministry team sponsors a guest speaker trained in grief counseling to address the topic of "Coping with the Holidays".

Food Pantry

The Saint Francis Food Pantry subsidizes families who are in need.  It is stocked by parishioners' donations of food and it is conducted by volunteers.  Deliveries of food are made twice a month (every other Tuesday), with special deliveries made at Easter, Christmas, and Thanksgiving.  The Food Committee also has a "Giving Tree" at Christmastime.  This tree is placed in the church and parishioners are encouraged to buy a Christmas gift for a needy person whose gender and age are stated on a gift tag hung on the tree.  these gifts are then distributed along with food in time for Christmas.

Respect Life Committee

Members of the Respect Life Committee truly value human life and feel the obligation to reach out to help others who are hurting.  The objective is to focus attention on the pervasive threat to human life through efforts in these major areas:

  • Spiritual - through sacrifice, fasting, prayer, and by offering Masses in memorial for the preborn.
  • Educational - via films, literature, speakers, and contests.
  • Legislative - through correspondence to appropriate legislators via letters and the Parish Life Phone Tree.
  • Caring - by hosing visits from single mothers and their babies to promote "needs" awareness of shelters, and through baby showers and diaper collections, etc.
