BECOMING CATHOLIC
O.C.I.A.
Order of Christian Initiation for Adults
The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (O.C.I.A.) is the process through which adults are prepared to enter into full communion with the Catholic Church and receive the Sacraments of Initiation.
O.C.I.A. is for:
Adults who have never been baptized and wish to become Catholic.
Adults who were baptized in another Christian denomination and are interested in entering into full communion with the Catholic Church.
Baptized Catholics who have not yet received the Sacraments of the Holy Eucharist and/or Confirmation.
O.C.I.A. classes begin each September and continue throughout the year. Adults who have never been baptized, known as catechumens, ordinarily receive the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and the Holy Eucharist at the Easter Vigil. Baptized Christians seeking full communion with the Catholic Church, as well as baptized Catholics preparing to receive First Holy Communion and/or Confirmation, typically complete their formation and receive these sacraments during the Easter season.
Sessions are held on Sundays from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Lower Church.
